2026-27 RRA Travel Teams

Scope & Definitions

Double‑carded Travel Team – athletes are rostered on their regular RRA club team and a travel team.
Single‑carded Travel Team – athletes are rostered only on the travel team for the applicable season(s).
Loop/Division Placement – the tier/loop where a team competes during league play or inter‑association scheduling.

Double‑Carded Teams
- Club team commitments (games and scheduled practices) take priority September through March. Travel teams must not enter tournaments or games that conflict with their players’ league games. Practice conflicts require written approval from the league Head Coach and Division Commissioner for the athlete to attend the travel team practice.
- Best suited for single‑season, experience‑focused opportunities (e.g., 1–2 tournaments, specialized training blocks).
Single‑Carded Teams (Developmental)
- Default term – one season; renewals require reapplication annually.
  - Two‑year proposals may be considered only for same‑birth‑year cohorts (no mixed‑age rosters) and require:clear, development first plan;
  - looping that avoids disadvantages to drafted B teams;
  - committee supermajority approval; and
  - mid‑term check‑in with authority to revoke year‑two approval if conditions aren’t met.
- Mixed‑age single‑carded teams may be approved for one season only given the added safety, placement, and fairness risks identified; they are not eligible for two‑year approval.

U14B Rockets Single-Carded Team

Register for Rockets Tryouts

Tryouts:
- September 13 – 8:15 pm, CO-OP 5
- September 15 – 6:30 pm, CO-OP 6
  - - NOTE: These tryout times have been scheduled after the U14A tryouts and before the U14B evaluations.
      Because the turnaround time with the U14A Aces is very tight, we strongly encourage any athlete interested in the U14B Rockets team to register for these tryouts, even if they are also hoping to earn a spot with the Aces.
      If an athlete is successful in earning a position with the Aces, we can remove them from the Rockets selection process. It will be considerably more difficult to accommodate a late registration after the evaluation process has already taken place.
Eligibility:
- Athletes born in 2013 and 2014
Player Selection:
- We will follow the A/AA Section Policy for player selection:
  - Independent evaluators will select the top seven players.
  - The coaching staff will select the remaining seven to eight players.
  - Our goal is to make the selection process as fair, transparent, and consistent as possible. Following the A/AA Section Policy provides a clear process that allows athletes to be evaluated objectively while also giving the coaching staff an opportunity to build a balanced and cohesive team.
Team Budget: The estimated cost is $2,500 per athlete.
Ice, Training, & Team Development:
- Our goal is to provide athletes with opportunities to develop both on and off the ice.
- Weekly/Monthly Expectations
  - 2 ice practices per week
  - 1 game per week
  - 3 dry-land strength and core-training sessions per month
  - 2 nutrition sessions per season
  - 1–2 mental-training sessions per season, independent of RRA programming
- We believe athlete development extends beyond ice time. Strength, nutrition, mental preparation, confidence, and healthy team habits will all be important parts of our program.
Looping & Competition:
- Potential opponents may include:
  - U14A
  - U16B
  - U14AA (once in second half of the season)
  - U12A (once in second half of the season)
- This approach will give our athletes opportunities to play against a range of teams and experience different levels and styles of competition.

- October 24–26: BVRA Pre-Season Tournament, Winnipeg, MB – Div A
- November 14–16: City of Bridges Tournament, Lethbridge, AB – Div B
- December 5–7: Ajax-Pickering Ringette Tournament, Ajax, ON / Toronto Area – Div B
- January 2–4: Jim Benning Tournament, Regina, SK – Div A
- February 13–15: Sweethearts Tournament, Spruce Grove, AB – Div B
- March 30: Western Cup, White City, SK – Div A

U16B Surge Double-Carded Team

Register for Surge Tryouts

Tryouts:
- Friday, September 4th 9:00-10:00 pm
  Monday, September 7th 8:45–9:45 pm
Eligibility:
- Athletes born in 2011 and 2012,
- 2013: select development prospects, with approximately 2–3 players
Team Budget: The estimated cost is $1,500–$2,000 per athlete.
Ice, Training, & Team Development:
- One on-ice practice per week
- Dryland and conditioning sessions, as scheduling permits
- Team-building activities and opportunities to develop team cohesion
- Additional development opportunities through exhibition and tournament play
Looping & Competition:
- Potential opponents may include:
  - U16 A Attack
  - U14 AA Rush
  - U14 A Aces
  - Other approved U14 travel teams
- The Surge will not have regularly scheduled league games against these teams. Exhibition opponents will be arranged by the Surge coaching/program staff.

Tentative Travel Schedule:
- The following tournaments are currently tentative. If a tournament conflicts with RRA league play, the Surge will not attend.
- October 9–12: Turkey Ring, St. Albert, AB
- November 5–9: Ring of Fire, Airdrie, AB
- January 8–11: Jim Benning Tournament — A Division, Regina, SK
- March TBD: Meet in the Middle, SK / AB / MB, Div A
- June 4–6: Capital Ringette Classic, Ottawa, ON
  - The Ottawa trip will also include opportunities for sightseeing and cultural activities in addition to tournament play.
